J K Rowling

Is a storytelling genius.

Re-reading the seventh book in the Harry Potter series made me realise just how remarkable her storytelling ability is.  Everything she set up in the sixth book has been carefully woven in, along within every other brilliant thing she's invented in the previous five. Sure she's not Tolkein, and she certainly doesn't have the insights or the character depth of Austen, but her ability to drive a narrative is unique.  And her imagination is so, so joyful.

If I could achieve a tithe of discipline, imagination and narrative drive as she (and her millions), I would die a happy woman.
